WASHINGTON —Today President Barack Obama endorsed Lindsey Port in her race for MN 56B. Port is among a select group of state legislative candidates from around the country to be endorsed by the President. 56B encompasses parts of Burnsville and Lakeville.
This contest has caught national attention due to Port’s emerging leadership on gun violence prevention. Additionally, Port owns a small business along with her husband, Steve, and was spurred to run to for state office after the incumbent representative supported cutting dozens of teaching positions from local schools. As a first time candidate, Port has run a competitive campaign, knocking thousands of doors to talk to voters in the district.
“We are thrilled that President Obama is endorsing our candidates in some of the most competitive races across the country,” said Jessica Post, Executive Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. “His endorsement highlights how crucial state legislative elections are to building on the progress the President has achieved and to continuing to move our nation forward.”
